We finally got our hands on the 2022 Rivian R1T. Let’s discuss how we can separate it from the pack.
The Rivian R1T is a awesome truck. From the tunnel storage system to the beautiful software and well crafted high quality interior. We love the look. If you are anything like us your asking yourself how can we make it unique? How can I protect it? Below we have 7 ways to make your Rivian R1T better than the rest.
1 -Rivian R1T Self-Healing Stealth Paint Protection Film
Also Known as Clear Bra or Clear Wrap.
This option allows you to turn the color of your vehicle to a satin finish and all while offering the best available protection to the paint! We use XPEL brand of film, which offers a self-healing top coat for swirls and small scratches, hydrophobic qualities, UV protection, as well as a 10-year warranty.
It is the best option to get a matte or satin color for your vehicle. The film offers a more durable finish than a satin top coat would from the manufacturer or a vinyl wrap. Making washing the vehicle a much simpler task with the hydrophobic qualities it contains.
Another benefit of satin paint protection film is that a metallic paint will still show through the film. So a metallic white now becomes a satin metallic white.

2 – Vinyl Color Change
A vinyl color change wrap is the process of wrapping the exterior painted surfaces to another color. Vinyl is basically a large colored sticker. There are a multitude of different colors to choose from and in different finishes. Matte, satin, and gloss. Even “color flips”, which is a vinyl that changes color depending on the angle and the light.
One of the main benefits of vinyl is that it is removable. The main downside to vinyl wraps is that they are not made to last. With a well-maintained and garage kept vehicle a vinyl wrap can last years. But a poorly maintained vehicle, that is allowed to sit dirty, with water on it, bird droppings sitting for weeks, will go bad within a matter of months. Vinyl wraps are not for everyone.
Rivian Chrome Delete? Stripes? Full Car Vinyl? You have options!
3 – Vinyl or Black Paint Protection Film Highlights
You can go with everything from stripes, to pinstripes, to wrapping a single panel. There are many different ways that a vinyl wrap can change the look of your Rivian. Add your own personal flair to the car.
You can “two-tone” your new Electric Rivian, either by wrapping the top half of the car or by wrapping just the hood, roof, and trunk deck. You can wrap just the hood as well.
Black Paint Protection film comes with 10 year warranty.
There are many different ways to stripe a car. You can have a single stripe, dual stripes, stripes with accent stripes, or even side stripes. The options are really just about limitless when it comes to what can be done.
4 – Change the Color of the Trim or Emblems (or remove them)
Maybe you want to change that trim to red or carbon fiber? It can be accomplished by either painting parts or vinyl wrapping them. Not all parts can be painted and not all parts can be wrapped. Emblems tend to be painted, as vinyl will start to peel after a while.
The process will vary from vehicle to vehicle. Typically window trim moldings will need to be vinyl wrapped, as the trims cannot be removed from the vehicle without having to remove and reinstall some of the glass. Or bagging off the entire vehicle to shoot the parts with paint, which would be very time consuming and expensive.
It is a way to add a subtle or even dramatic change to the vehicle. When wrapping or painting almost any color can be achieved. Everything from color-changing to black to blue to orange. The choice is in the customer’s hands.
5 – Rivian Wheel Powder Coat
Changing the color of the rims can can help separate your Rivian from the rest. You can go for a subtle change like gloss or satin black, maybe matching a chrome delete. Like it loud? Add a pop of color or match the wheels to body color.
Plan on off-roading your Rivian? Powder coating is a durable finish to your wheels that is similar to their original coating. Painting would easily chip and become damaged from everyday wear and tear. You want to make sure that your wheels are getting powder coat.

10 – Rivian R1T Brake Calipers
Brake calipers can be powder coated, similar to what is done to wheels, to change them to just about any color around. Or you can install a caliper cover over the top of them. Typically you will be more restricted in colors and designs. Some come with logos, or “Tesla” or “Model Y” written on them.
You will want to ensure that the company knows what they are doing when it comes to this process. There are two methods of powder coating the brake calipers. One is to bag off the entire car, thereby protecting it from overspray, and then coating the calipers.
Or the second method is to remove and bleed the lines of brake fluid and powder coat them off the vehicle. And then reinstalling the calipers.
With either option, you want to ensure that it is done properly so that your car is safe and protected. Especially when it comes to your brakes. There are many shops that will work on wheels, but not the calipers due to the liability.
Can the Rivian Roof Be Tinted?
Yes, the Rivian R1T‘s roof can absolutely be tinted! The R1T features a large, panoramic glass roof, which is a standout feature of the vehicle. Tinting the roof can serve multiple purposes:
-
Heat Reduction: The tint helps reduce solar heat gain, making the cabin cooler, especially under direct sunlight. This is particularly important given the expansive glass area.
-
UV Protection: Tinting can block harmful UV rays, protecting both passengers and the interior of the vehicle from sun damage, preventing upholstery fading and skin exposure.
-
Aesthetic Appeal: Adding tint to the roof gives the vehicle a sleek, uniform look that complements the overall design, especially when paired with darker tinted windows.
-
Privacy & Glare Reduction: Tinted roofs provide more privacy for passengers and can help reduce glare from the sun, making for a more comfortable driving experience.
For the Rivian R1T, ceramic tint is a popular choice, as it offers the best heat rejection properties while maintaining clarity. Just like the rest of the windows, you can opt for a lighter tint to preserve the openness of the cabin or a darker shade for more privacy and style. Many tinting professionals offer heat-rejecting ceramic options that can be applied to the roof as well.
